Job Brief
The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and collaborate closely with the senior management team, governing board, and staff. The CDO will play a key role in defining and implementing strategies to secure resources, foster relationships with stakeholders, and enhance the organization’s development efforts.
This role requires a proven track record in fundraising, organizational development, and team management, coupled with a passion for innovation and philanthropy. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in leadership positions, preferably in a non-profit or similar organizational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CEO, senior management, and governing board to develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans.
- Identify and address challenges that impact the organization’s growth and effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of innovation, philanthropy, and collaboration that aligns with the organization’s core values and mission.
- Develop and oversee a comprehensive fund development strategy that includes donor acquisition, retention, and engagement.
- Lead operations for development functions, ensuring efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.
- Establish a balanced mix of donor sources and fundraising programs to support the organization’s growth and sustainability.
- Develop performance metrics, monitor progress, and evaluate the success of fund development initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with legal regulations, ethical standards, and industry best practices for fundraising and resource development.
- Recruit, train, and motivate staff and volunteers involved in development activities.
- Stay informed on trends in philanthropy, fundraising, and organizational development to keep the company ahead of industry standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Advanced certifications in fundraising or development (e.g., CFRE) are a plus.
- A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in leadership roles, including project and team management.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and resource development with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding goals.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate data and inform strategic decisions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising software tools.
- Availability to travel occasionally as required for donor and stakeholder engagement.
